CHEO Research Sees Record Growth

OTTAWA, Canada – October 29, 2014 – According to the 2014 Canada’s Top 40 Research Hospitals list announced today by Research Infosource, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute is the third fastest-growing research hospital in Canada based on year over year revenue growth.

This year, CHEO hit no. 20 on the list (up from no. 31 in 2010) based on its research income of more than $28M. It is also the third-ranked pediatric research hospital on the list.

“Research revenue is just one benchmark to measure success,” Dr. Martin Osmond, CEO and Scientific Director of the CHEO Research Institute. “I’m very proud of our ranking, but it’s the impact of our research for patients and their families that we’re really driven by. I want to thank Research Infosource for this formal recognition.”

CHEO researchers compete for federal funding to fuel more than 300 studies across the hospital. They also rely on community donations; every dollar donated to research at CHEO is leveraged four times by other granting organizations.

“CHEO is committed to innovating and embedding evidence into everything we do to ensure the highest quality patient care and outcomes,” says CHEO president and CEO Alex Munter. “The impact of our discoveries supports CHEO’s vision that our care makes a difference not only in our community, but around the world. We are very proud that CHEO is one of the top three child-and youth-focused research institutes in Canada.”
